What is Voicethread

Page history last edited by Tracy Poelzer 10 years, 3 months ago

Voicethread is a web-based tool, accessible from any computer with Internet access.  Users set up an account (educators can get an upgraded account for no charge), and projects are created and stored online on the Voicethread site.  Work can easily be shared with and commented on by others.

Voicethread works on the premise that 'a picture is worth a thousand words'.  Producing a Voicethread enables users to create “a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents and videos and allows people to leave comments in five ways (voice, text, audio file, video or by telephone” (Voicethread.com, 2009). It is a terrific tool which can be used with students of all ages to create digital storytelling projects, demonstrate knowledge gained in research/inquiry projects, document student progress over time, and share information with an authentic audience.  It is extremely adaptable, and can be used for a multitude of purposes across the range of subject/curriculum areas. Many subject areas can be integrated into one Voicethread.  Language Arts outcomes are very involved, as students write and edit scripts, and participate in speaking and listening activities when recording or responding to Voicethreads.

What is a Voicethread, Anyway? (A Voicethread about Voicethreads by the creators of Voicethread!)
